Success Stories
Nerling Leticia Hernández Pérez
Nerling is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing while raising children as a single mother. Her goal is to secure stable employment in healthcare and create a better future for her family.
Kenia Vanessa López Alvarado
Kenia is currently completing the final year of her Nursing degree and hopes to pursue further specialization after graduation. Her ambition is to become a successful healthcare professional who can both support her community and honor the sacrifices her parents made to help her pursue her education.
Francis Marilyn Torres Barrera
Francis is from the community of Troilo and is currently in her fifth year of studying Language and Literature. She hopes to become a teacher and continue growing professionally while helping shape the next generation of students in her community.
Chirsley Massiel Linarte Hernández
Chirsley is in her fifth year of nursing studies and is committed to building a career rooted in service and community care. She hopes to continue advancing academically while using her education to improve opportunities and health outcomes for others in Troilo.
Tamara, Class of 2015
Tamara is one of the original La Charla leaders. She has graduated from nursing school and volunteers in her free time as a community health worker in her village of Troilo. Tamara also participates on our Community Advisory Committee to help La Charla find ways to continually improve.
Kelvin, Class of 2016
Kelvin is part of the second La Charla graduating class. He graduated from university in only 3 years and now works as an English teacher in Troilo. He also now works as the Program Coordinator for La Charla and is a founding member of our Community Advisory Committee. Fun fact: Kelvin has been invited to the US as a guest of the Nicaraguan Embassy!
Milena, Class of 2018
Milena graduated from university with a degree in child psychology. She has worked with the La Charla team since its inception and has served as a mentor for many of her fellow students. She most enjoys teaching her peers about empowerment and goal-setting.
Vivien, Class of 2019
Vivien is a young woman of many firsts: first in her family to attend university, first La Charla graduate to attend medical school, and soon she will be the first La Charla university graduate to have been sponsored through the Dr. Briner Memorial Scholarship.
